The changing face of marketing (April 2009)
If you had mentioned linked-in, facebook, twitter or del.icio.us a couple of years ago, you would most likely have been greeted with a quizzical look at best. For some people this may still be the case. Whilst it is hard to grasp the merits of some new technologies, the world is certainly a fast-changing place. And marketing activities need to reflect this. The changing face of marketing media means that there are many more potential avenues to explore when it comes to getting your marketing messages to your audiences. That’s not to say that traditional methods are dead. A well written letter can still be a highly effective direct communication. Interesting and relevant content, expressed in a compelling manner are very much the order of the day, especially for time-starved prospects. The range of new media now opens up a host of new opportunities to express your personality in a more engaging and interesting manner. Video is an increasingly popular tool to bring life to websites and the greater bandwidth available to most web users makes this a realistic option. What’s more, production costs make it a more affordable option.
At TCii we like to keep an open mind on such things, so we can offer informed and useful advice to our clients. We have recently commissioned our own video introduction to our services, which you can see on our website or on YouTube. It’s a bit of an experiment and we plan to produce some other videos which are focused more on issues or content that we feel are of interest to potential clients. After all, in the world where research starts with Google, it’s all about recognising what the searcher is looking for rather than what you have to offer.
